Emory University students, faculty, and staff can now request access to Claude for Education (Claude EDU), Anthropic’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
The introduction of Claude EDU expands the university’s portfolio of AI tools and supports the broader mission of the AI.Humanity initiative to leverage AI in service to humanity.
In a joint message to the university community, Pearl K. Dowe, senior vice provost for academic affairs, and Dana Haggas, chief information officer, said the offering reflects Emory’s commitment to provide secure, institutionally supported AI tools for those who choose to use them.
“Claude is available to community members who choose to use AI to support learning, research, writing, analysis, brainstorming, and other appropriate university work, helping them focus more time on teaching, collaboration, and service,” they wrote.
Access and licensing
Claude EDU is available by request to Emory students, faculty, and staff with active emory.edu accounts. Standard licenses are available at no cost. Premium licenses provide higher usage allowances and are available at $50 per license per month, funded by individual departments. Certain advanced capabilities are being evaluated separately and are not part of the general offering at this time.
Available capabilities
The initial Claude EDU offering includes:
- Claude: AI assistant for learning and work
- Projects: Organize related work
- Artifacts: Create documents, files, and other outputs
- Learning Mode: Guided learning and reasoning within Projects
Note: Claude Cowork and Claude Code are not part of the current offering and are being evaluated through limited pilots.
